Windows Server 2019 RDS 50 Device CAL

The Windows Server 2019 RDS 50 Device CAL pack provides Remote Desktop Services Client Access Licenses for 50 devices to connect via Remote Desktop regardless of user. Remote Desktop Services (RDS) CALs are required in addition to standard Windows Server CALs when users or devices connect to a Windows Server via Remote Desktop for full desktop sessions, RemoteApp published applications, or VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure). Without RDS CALs, Remote Desktop connections are limited to two concurrent administrative sessions per server.

RDS CALs unlock the full Remote Desktop Session Host functionality, enabling multiple users to connect simultaneously to a shared server desktop or individual published applications. This is the foundation of thin-client computing, terminal server deployments, and centralized application hosting — where applications run on the server and only the display, keyboard, and mouse signals travel across the network.

For organizations with remote workers, branch offices, or BYOD policies, RDS provides a secure way to deliver corporate applications without installing software on end-user devices. All data stays on the server, reducing the risk of data loss from stolen or compromised laptops.

This 50-pack provides Device CALs specifically for Windows Server 2019 with downward compatibility to older versions. RDS CALs are required in addition to — not instead of — standard Windows Server CALs. Each connecting user or device needs both a Windows Server CAL and an RDS CAL.

RDS Device CALs are perpetual and do not expire. They support all RDS deployment scenarios including session-based desktops, RemoteApp programs, VDI personal desktops, and VDI pooled desktops. The licenses cover connections through Remote Desktop Gateway, Remote Desktop Web Access, and direct RDP connections.
