Power BI Premium per User, often shortened to PPU, is the annual license for one user who needs Premium capabilities without buying a full organizational capacity. It includes the collaboration rights of Power BI Pro and adds the features advanced report builders ask for first: paginated reports, larger semantic models, more refreshes per day, AI-assisted analytics, deployment pipelines, and XMLA endpoint scenarios. For a BI lead, finance analyst, operations reporting owner, or consultant building serious client dashboards, PPU is the step up from Pro that still prices per named user.
This product is a one-year Power BI Premium per User subscription for one named user. It is a cloud subscription, not a perpetual desktop product. The reason to buy PPU is not just a bigger badge. It changes the ceiling for what one analyst or a small analytics team can build without moving to capacity licensing. Pro is excellent for standard dashboards, but it becomes limiting when reports need paginated output, models grow, refreshes need to run many times per day, or developers want XMLA-based tooling.
Paginated reports are the clearest example. A sales dashboard and a monthly customer statement are different products.
